Food?  It’s foodie heaven!

From Italian, Thai and Turkish delights to the best burritos this side of the Atlantic – there’s global guzzling to be had in this area.

Closer to home you’ll find everything from proper fish & chips and traditional pub grub to exclusively vegan and vegetarian treasures.  Heck, there’s even a cafe specially for dogs!

At the last count we had 12 restaurants, 9 pubs and a gazillion independent cafes, delis and sandwich shops here in town.

Visit on market day and you’d better come hungry, because there are stalls galore selling everything from local burgers to fancy crepes. Look out for exciting pop-ups too, like Tibetan nosh at the legendary Trades Club, spicy Indian street food and marvelously moreish homemade ice cream sold from a pushbike.

If it’s drinking you want, don’t worry – The beer and bar scene has never been, erm, healthier.

It’s not just cosy old pubs with roaring fires and beer gardens for the brave.  There are new and quirky venues here too, including micropubs, wine bars and a cocktail joint, plus the world’s coolest working men’s club hidden away in the woods. It all goes to make the place completely individual & that’s what we like!

Here’s a flavour of a few of the great eateries and drinkeries(?)

Wonderful underground bar with a lovely atmosphere, serving home-cooked veggie food, bottled beers and fabulous wines. Family friendly, dog-friendly, gay-friendly, in fact everyone’s a friend in Nelsons. We love it.

The brewery that opened its own bar – loads of quality beers made right here in Calderdale. Contemporary food served in a cool Scandinavian environment. We recommend – tacos & Sweet Potato fries – and every beer!

Old Gate
A Hebden institution. Cozy bar, open fires with a great eating area. Huge selection of beers and wine. Burgers a speciality. Hebden Comedy Club resides here once a month. Marvellous We recommend – The Old Gate Burger. Miss your breakfast to take full advantage.

Drink hebden bridge
Is it a beer shop, is it a bar? Or is it just one of the nicest places to try a huge variety wonderful beers, surrounded by true Hebden People? Hint it’s all of these and more. The owner, Martin is a legend. And you can try on your HebTroCo trousers here too.

Urban chic cafe, serving seriously good coffee, great food and specialising in fresh smoothies. Martha has an attention to detail like no other. Extremely friendly staff. A locals’ favourite. We recommend Funky Monkey Smoothie.

Cafe Solo
small and perfectly formed. Amazing coffee, (cheese on toast is spectacular!) a meeting place for those who work, those who write and those who chat.

Love Cafe

A Music Lover’s dream! Vinyl, cds, Owner Sid spinning the tunes, and Valeen serving great coffee and cake.

Coffe Cali

Hebden’s very own indoor/outdoor cafe. Tables by the old bridge to enjoy the tropical Yorkshire sun(!).  We recommend –  Great toasted sarnies.

Olive Branch
What can we say?! Authentic Turkish food, cooked supurbly served by lovely people.  If you sit with your back to the window and ignore the snow, you could be on holiday…… We recommend – all of it!

Micro pub serving unique craft ales. Proving diamonds come in small packages. So good, people sit outside in the snow just to sample the beers. Not so grim oop North!

The Albert

Oldskool, lovely English pub. It’s the Grandaddy of the Hebden pub scene, and like your Grandad, loved to bits. It had a really nice spruce up after the floods, but there’s still no pretentions, a true ‘local’.

Oh, my word! If you want the real locals’ hidden gem, Marco’s is it! From the outside, it looks plain and ordinary, but Marco and his team create pizzas that rival any thrown at you from the Italian mainland. A true authentic Italian experience, in sunny Hebden. We recommend Pizza of course!!

Saker Baker Hebden Bridge
Saker Baker
A workers co-operative making organic breads, delicious cakes and gorgeous veggie pies, plus loads of organic foods & treats. Thoroughly nice people serving food that’s good for you. We recommend – The Spicy Mexican bean and Cheese Pie and the caramel and blueberry crumble.

 Marshalls Bakery
There’s been a baker here forever, and this reincarnation carries on the torch for making traditional pies, cakes and sarnies. A bakery like those you visited when you were a kid. Perfect. We recommend – Any cream bun!
