white lion hotel

We love old stuff in Hebden, and it doesn’t get much older than the White Lion. This gorgeous building dates back to 1657, and today, under new management, it retains its traditional ‘coaching inn’ feel thanks to tasteful décor, cosy corners and roaring log fires in winter.  When it comes to proper pubs, they just don’t make them like they used to, but this is the real deal.

Haley and Billy have made sure there’s nothing historic about the food and drink here, though. A noticeable notch above everyday pub grub, delicious homemade dishes are freshly prepared using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.  You’ll find plenty of vegan, veggie and special diet options too, not to mention their now legendary steak and ale pie and sticky toffee pudding.

Drinks-wise, there’s everything from speciality beers, English fizz and unusual gins through to hot drinks for cold winter days.

There’s also a fantastic permanent selection of carefully kept local ales from the likes of Thwaites, Timothy Taylor and Saltaire Brewery – all Cask Marque accredited.

This is very much a venue at the heart of Hebden, where friends reunite and community groups gather, while tourists visit for a taste of our town.

Training facilities and rooms for events are also available, and there are even ten boutique en-suite bedrooms for anyone who can’t bear to leave.
