In a town famously full of artists, crafters and facilities catering for them, you’ve got to do something pretty special to stand out. The Making Mill fits that bill!

Set up around 14 years ago by local legend, Jinny Riley, today, under its catchy new name, this fabulous venue offers workshop and studio space to rent by the hour or day. It’s just what you need if you’re a private group, budding new craft business, or a frustrated hobbyist with no room at home.

Take your pick from two great spaces here: a larger ‘front’ room, easily big enough to seat 15 and wonderfully light and airy with its apex roof, exposed beams and windows on three sides. If you’re likely to make a mess though, the ‘back’ room accommodates 14 and has a Belfast sink and concrete floor – perfect for easy clean-ups and a quick getaway.

Just as she has for years, Jinny runs her own brilliant adult and children’s sewing workshops here. There are visiting teachers too, offering classes in everything from watercolours and macrame to felting and crochet. You can rent the rooms individually or take the whole space for events – just email Jinny at themakingmillworkshops@gmail.com or call her direct on 01422 847620. Please leave a message if she can’t pick up!

Not surprisingly, there’s a packed creative timetable at the Making Mill, so check Insta and Facebook for events, exhibitions and rag markets run by Open Studios and the WI. And look out for a shiny new website due in January 2024, complete with online booking for bagsying those amazing spaces!
