We’re big fans of community stuff, so it’s hardly surprising that Mytholmroyd Community Centre gets a big thumbs up from us. A far cry from the dusty old halls of yesteryear, this newly revamped venue offers a mind-boggling selection of activities for keeping fit or having fun. Best of all, its mission is to keep them accessible and affordable for everyone.
For starters you’ll find a fully equipped gym with all the latest kit, not to mention brilliant instructors to help you make the most of it. Special sessions cater for youngsters, and you can sign up for membership or pay as you go. There’s squash, racket ball, badminton, table tennis and five-a-side football here too, with equipment for hire, clubs to join, and even some coaching sessions depending on your sport. Fancy a fell run, mad about martial arts, or yearning for yoga in Calderdale? It’s all going on here – just check online for details. You can even book using a handy app.
Don’t worry; it’s not all about sport and fitness. There’s organised drumming or dance classes for every ability, plus a club for organic gardeners. Throwing a party or tying the knot? Then check out the fabulously fancy Jubilee Room, complete with purpose-built dance floor and fully stocked bar, as well as everything you need for hosting a meeting, conference or some training. Whatever you do here, please don’t forget: this place was devastated by the floods in 2015, so supporting it now is more important than ever.
