More wine & wisecracks than jam & Jerusalem. Their slogan says it all…where do we sign up? Seriously though, forget everything you thought about the WI, here in Hebden it’s a fab chance for women of all ages and backgrounds to make new friends and have some fun.
The group meets at 7:30 in the Town Hall on the third Monday of every month, but there are regular book, film and walking club meetings as well. Activities so far include everything from gin, cider and cheese tastings through to crafting, bake-offs and Bollywood dancing! There are trips to join in with too, like the annual summer weekend camp or foraging sessions in our beautiful local woods.
The twice-yearly Hebden Bridge Rag Market is a major must-do event for anyone who loves haberdashery, while some surprising visiting speakers are another thing not to be missed.
As well as fun and games, Hebden WI is big on local charity stuff, and this year they support Mothershare based in Halifax. True to WI tradition, there’s an optional campaigning element too, and right now it’s all about protecting our seas and oceans. The overall emphasis is always on casual fun you can dip in and out of, with no need to commit and activities geared towards inclusivity, trying new things and having a good-old laugh. Tempted? Guests are welcome, so give it a go: £5 a time for up to three meetings. Check their website and Facebook page for details.
