As a uniquely creative town you’d expect Hebden to have a decent painting and decorating shop, and they don’t come better than Colour Yorkshire. Owner Kate is another ‘proper’ local, and her fab little shop has been keeping the homes and businesses of Hebden looking gorgeous for 13 years now.
As well as brushes, scrapers and all that other stuff lost in your attic, she offers a dazzling range of Johnstone’s paints and various indoor and outdoor varnishes. Fancy folk can order stunning Fired Earth products here too, but the emphasis is definitely on those essential and affordable everyday products for getting the job done.
Kate is great for expert advice on interior design as well, and she even runs a super-successful paint export business. Best of all is her legendary colour-matching service, with literally 50,000 shades (not all of them grey) to choose from in that excellent Johnstone’s range. Whether it’s your gran’s blue-rinse you want to recreate or a pea-green lookalike with a posh poetic name, Kate’s got the magic to mix it. Just pop in with a colour sample and leave the rest to her.
The shop does discounts for trade and local businesses too, and opens its doors at 8am – perfect for people short of time. As well as great products and service, Kate is famously savvy, sassy and passionate about supporting our town, so she’s always good for a natter. In fact, a visit to her shop couldn’t be less like watching paint dry.
