We’re not short of great family businesses around here, but it doesn’t get much more family than Craggies. Here, Andrea and her two kids Tom and Sarah run a brilliant butchers, farm shop and café between them. It’s only Dad who doesn’t get a look in!
The butcher’s shop is Tom’s domain, and the emphasis here is on high-quality local meats produced with animal welfare in mind. Whether it’s beef from Booth or lamb from literally the hills all around, everything is sourced from as close as possible, which means tastier cuts from happier livestock. Look out for perfect meat pies and the best-selling ‘Craggies Classic’ sausages too.
The Deli here sells a mouthwatering selection of goodies, usually from Yorkshire and always carefully chosen for their consistent good quality. There’s delicious beer from Vocation and Little Valley breweries located next door, plus famous local brands like Grandma Wild’s biscuits and Lottie Shaw’s Parkin. You’ll find jams, marmalades and chutneys too, and wonderful meat ‘rubs’ prepared in nearby Keighley.
In the café, Sarah’s in charge. Her fresh cakes, brownies and tray-bakes are amazing, and the friendly staff will serve you a delicious homemade scone, whichever way you pronounce it. There are light bites like soups and Welsh rarebit, and decent fresh coffee or a pint of that wonderful beer from next door. Dogs are welcome, parking is plentiful, and there’s even outdoor seating with stunning views to Stoodley Pike. No wonder this place is a mecca for hikers, bikers and anyone passing through.
