Pearls of Wisdom

Pearls have inspired people for ages with their timeless appeal. These treasures from the sea have also invited some unusual and profound comments from people who have been captivated by their rarity and beauty. Coco Chanel believed that “A woman needs ropes and ropes of pearls.”, whilst Jackie Kennedy assured us that “Pearls are always appropriate”

Frances Carlaw (aka The Pearl Lady) will be presenting a lively and entertaining talk on the history, science and use of the only living gemstone, the pearl. The talk will be going back over 5000 years, exploring the significance of pearls and how they have been used over the centuries, also how they are formed, their shapes and colours, and some myths about them. Frances is a very experienced speaker and comes highly recommended.

We do request that guests make a donation to our fundraising and suggest a donation of £5. Our Charity of the year is Mothershare Halifax.
